Some thoughts for Wednesday:

  • Forgot about this item: Cord of Unhinged Malice. Crazily fucking BiS now. Buy one if you're a tryhard with too much gold.
  • Trying to decide which fights PoF is actually viable on. Generally Tome is too good not to take, and Pouch retains its usefulness because of legendary ring. It seems to excel on the big cleave fights, as expected, so Assault, Iskar, Xhul, Manno, Archi.
  • Meteor is a lot better than we give it credit for. Cinderstorm is great when you've got PoF equipped because it procs the shit out of Doom Nova. But Meteor is insta-cast so it can actually fit into your burst and is less of an interruption during your normal FB+pyro spamming. Unfortunately since Cinderstorm is still so close on single-target and so far ahead on everything else, I'd still default to Cinderstorm.

Also working on a spreadsheet to visualize burst/conserve rotations, mostly because the internet still doesn't work.

What the fuck is that hard cast pyro at the beginning. That's fuckin atrocious. What you want to do is precast ROP at 3s, then cast fireball > scorch (combust right as this cast ends which should be when fireball is about to land) > go ham 1m dps

HOLY FUCK LITERALLY ALL MY MATH WAS WRONG I HATE EXCEL

Anyway just for curiosity I wanted to do the math for making sure I Combust properly in the opener.

Assuming I'm standing around 30yd away because Cinderstorm with 15% Haste:

Fireball velocity: 28yd/s
Fireball cast: 2.2s / 1.15 = 1.913s
Fireball GCD: 1.5s / 1.15 = 1.304s
Scorch cast: 1.5s / 1.15 = 1.304s

0.000s Fireball begincast
1.304s Fireball GCD ends
1.913s Fireball cast
1.913s Scorch begincast
2.984s Fireball projectile hits
3.217s Scorch hits

So Combust <0.233s left remaining in Scorch cast; well before that actually because latency and input lag and shit.

(Work in progress) Flame Patch damage has been significantly reduced. A previous hotfix to solve a bug with Flame Patch not dealing damage while the Mage was casting effectively increased its performance, and today’s change returns it to approximately the intended performance level.

FUCK IT ALL

So there was a discussion in Mage Discord today about APL changes/experiments, and somehow as a result I ended up with this spreadsheet. It's a formula for deciding whether or not to cast another Fire Blast depending on Combustion cooldown, current FB charges and recharge time. Might make a WeakAura for funsies later.

actions.single_target+=/fire_blast,if=buff.hot_streak.down&buff.heating_up.up
changes to (roughly):

actions.single_target+=/fire_blast,if=buff.hot_streak.down&buff.heating_up.up&charges_fractional>1&(((3-charges_fractional)*(12*spell_haste)))<cooldown.combustion.remains

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pHICkuTnmRpbjNSsVycDejokofbSfO1QQn-fHWMeALI/edit#gid=788160641

edit: Still working on the formula because I feel like there's a way to avoid two conditionals but whatevs.

surprised honestly how lackluster the scorch legendary performs, and more surprised how good the hardcast pyro legendary is

Yeah I was seeing this too. Sad that the scorch one isn't good.

Fire
  • Cinderstorm will no longer consume additional stacks of Ice Floes when damage occurs.
  • Fire Mage critical strike chance has been increased by 5%.
  • Critical Mass multiplier has been decreased to 1.1 (was 1.3).
  • Developer's Note: We shifted some critical strike chance from a multiplier on gear to a flat bonus. This brings the value of critical strike for Fire closer to other stats and also limits the very high amounts of critical strike chance that can be reached with certain gear.

Doesn't affect much right now but it's going to have a much bigger effect when scaling to higher ilvls. Brings Fire down closer to Arcane, and thus lends more credence to the idea that Arcane will have the bigger penis at higher ilvl. Sadface. Fire still best for progression, far as I can tell.

Allegedly they nerfed some of the dungeon trinkets too on beta but idk.

Yeah, I'm honestly thinking I'm going to play Ele in Legion simply because they keep FUCKING nerfing Mages.

Also the reduction to crit is most likely because Crit was far and away the highest priority stat in Legion, even above Intellect.

Yeah the scaling was ridiculous, stat weight of crit was beyond everything by miles.

Honestly it's not that big of a nerf, not like Flame Patch. It just closes the gap between Fire and Arcane some. Frost still shit tier and gross.

Okay this bug is actually really, really, really bad if it's true. https://www.altered-time.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2619

I looked into it on some of our logs and noticed similar results.

08/03 Tyrant

3 Mages, 1 target. You can see all our Ignites ticking away as expected.

3 Mages, 2 targets. Every 2 seconds, Ignite should be spreading to another valid target if available. However, I don't have any Ignite damage on the Enforcer until 42s, where I more than likely casted something directly on that mob. Note that Tok has no Ignite damage on the Enforcer whatsoever. That is clearly not supposed to happen.

3 mages, 2 targets. We see the expected Ignite damage, but again, this is likely coming from the fact that we immediately target switched to the add, so the Ignite is not from spread, but from direct application.

Here's the weird part: I do not see this behavior on Council. 3 mages, 2 targets. Ignite appears to have spread properly from Gurtogg to Jubei'thos.

tldr game sux gg blizz

8/25/2016 Legendary Tuning
- Cord of Infinity 40% threshold up from 25%
- Marquee Bindings of the Sun King up to 300% from 200%
- Koralon's Burning Touch up to 350% from 250%, mastery replaced with crit

- Sephuz's Secret works on attempted CC rather than successful

Nice Fire buffs here. Those bracers were already BiS and now they're even better. Curious to see how the Scorch belt performs vs the other legendaries now.

Went looking for all the pre-raid Crit/Mast or Mast/Crit gear that I could find, as well as a few relics. This excludes world boss loot.

tl;dr Black Rook Hold has lots of awesome gear. Darkheart Thicket and Maw of Souls are easily spammable; Vault of the Wardens is too if you bail on the group before Cordana. Violet Hold, while having the most amount of usable gear, takes forever and does not guarantee that you'll even fight those bosses, let alone see the items drop.
